Use the template provided below. Choose a patient population.  Your patient could present with :  PAIN . (YOU WILL COMPLETE THIS ASSIGNMENT USING THE SAME PATIENT POPULATION AND CHOSEN SYMPTOM)
Provide a detailed discussion of the pathophysiology of the dis-ease & symptom you chose from the list provided.
Learn about tiered integrative therapies for your chosen symptom in Section III (chapters 14-22) in your textbook. Do not read all the chapters of Section III, just the chapter that addresses the symptom you chose.
Using the table fill in the sections 1-5 integrative approach to the symptom (least invasive-most invasive)
Using the table of evidence (TOE) find two original research studies choosing one therapy in the tiered symptom management table. You may also choose 2 different therapies and provide one original research study for each.
Describe a comprehensive  nursing plan managing the symptom addressing body, mind, and spirit dimensions. Integrate rationale for your assessment from literature in physiology, pathophysiology, psychology, sociology, and spirituality/ culture.
Include in the nursing plan your rationale behind the patient-centered goals for the management of the symptom chosen. Identify one SMART patient-centered goal for each one of the following dimensions: body, mind, and spirit (Total 3 goals).
Discuss your ideas of an integrative approach of your chosen symptom and patient population, considering the SMART goals you created. Discuss your ideas for implementation of your integrative approach to symptom management as a leader in healthcare.

Criteria of goals with expected outcomes should be in SMART format:
S – Specific and focused to the client – reflecting clients behavior ex. “the client will perform deep breathing twice a day.”
M – Measurable – to quantify desired response objectively ex. “the client’s systolic BP will be less than 160 mm Hg by 1/7.”
A – Attainable or perceivable – avoid statements “will be able to.” ex. “on the day of heart surgery, the client will demonstrate relief of anxiety by stating that all questions have been answered.”
R – Realistic – includes pts. Support system, emotional and physical condition, the level of intelligence, health values, availability of workforce and equipment.
T – Time-bound or time-limited – so that nurse has a standard whether progress is being reasonable and assisting in setting priorities.
Example: To reduce fever within the baseline data of 35.5 by giving prn antipyretic medication and performing tepid sponge bath for 4 hrs will reduce body temperature to baseline.
